AMANKORA
KINGDOM OF BHUTAN
A PILGRIMAGE TO HAPPINESS
Bhutan is hallowed ground in a pristine environment. And Amankora, comprising 5 lodges in its central and western valleys, is a sanctuary designed to make the most of it. Aman means ‘peace’, and kora means ‘circular pilgrimage’, reflecting the idea of a complete circuit—the ideal experience of one of the happiest countries in the world.
EXPERIENCES TO BE DISCOVERED
Bhutan is a global pioneer, a nation which systematically measures success not by its economy but by its people’s happiness. Appropriate for such a wild and majestic mountain kingdom, where everything is off the beaten track, yet where tranquillity reigns, with happiness at its spiritual core.
365 days of happiness
Spring brings resplendent colour to the Himalayan forests, while balmy summers are ideal for wellness retreats and for sampling rare ingredients. Autumn is the time for vibrant festivals, and for hiking and exploring—which may continue into winter, as days remain pleasant and clear nights reveal enchanting starscapes. Every season is a revelation.
Tiger’s Nest Cabin
Nestled in the foothills under the Tiger’s Nest, Amankora’s log cabin offers both a prelude and finale for your hike. Enjoy a sunrise breakfast before your journey, and a restorative massage and lunch after. The prayer room is ideal for quiet meditation, while the cabin itself makes a serene setting for intimate events.
Active adventure
Trek the forest trails and rope bridges. Encounter yaks, black-necked cranes, and the distinct Yuta horses. Raft the whitewaters of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, learn traditional archery, and bike through the rugged terrain. With forests and plains, valleys and dramatic 7,000m peaks, Bhutan offers no shortage of adventure.
Soul and spirit
Tap into Bhutan’s profound soul with immersive cultural experiences at ancient dzongs, monasteries, and sacred sites. Celebrate the return of endangered black-necked cranes to the Phobjikha Valley for the winter. Each of Amankora’s Lodges is a gateway to its own spiritual treasures, including interactive events by visiting monks.
Journeys
Amankora’s 5 lodges form a circuit in a multi-destination odyssey through the kingdom. Visit them all or choose a combination among them, and tailor your itinerary to include a variety of adventures. Journeys range from 3 nights at 1 lodge, up to 16 nights across all 5 lodges.

A SELECTION OF ACCOMMODATIONS
Paro Lodge
At an elevation of 2,250 metres, Paro Valley makes a beguiling start or an atmospheric end to an Amankora journey. Thick pines hide the 24-suite Lodge, with walls clad in wood and black steel panelling, contrasting rustic elements with contemporary design.
Thimphu Lodge
Set in the upper reaches of the Motithang area, the 16-suite Thimphu Lodge is built in the style of a traditional dzong fortress. Within reach of the capital’s shops and sights, the lodge remains a secluded retreat from which to explore both all the city has to offer and the wild Himalayan landscape.
Punakha Lodge
Across a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River, Punakha Lodge is located in a subtropical valley where the Bhutanese royals spend their winters. 8 suites boast views across an orange orchard and rice terraces, with 4 others offering the option to be combined into 2 two-bedroom units.
Gangtey Lodge
In the remote Phobjikha Valley, the 8-suite Gangtey Lodge is set on a forested knoll with scenic views of the 16th-century Gangtey Goemba monastery. Part of the Black Mountains National Park wildlife reserve, the valley is home each winter to a flock of 300 endangered black-necked cranes.
Bumthang Lodge
The 16-suite Bumthang Lodge rests adjacent to the Wandichholing Palace in the Choekhor Valley. Translated as ‘beautiful field’, Bumthang contains a treasure trove of Bhutanese art alongside 29 monasteries, including the ancient Jambay Lhakhang, home to an unforgettable 108-butter lamp offering experience.
